Our Learning

New Pedagogies for Deep Learning at Takanini School.

Takanini School is part of a group of over a thousand schools across New Zealand and the world collaborating and sharing best practice on how to prepare children for life in a changing world.

Our teachers design authentic learning experiences using real life problem solving to create new knowledge and help students identify their strengths and talents. It is learning with a purpose giving students choice and real life applications for learning. We want our students to develop the skills to be problem solvers and change makers.

Play Based Learning

Our Junior Students learn through play based learning. Our youngest students enjoy a newly refurbished Junior Play Based Learning environment. This includes an outdoor learning area for our play based junior school classes. This project was designed by Boffa Miskell and completed with the generous support of the Hugh Green Foundation.

Garden to Table

At Garden to Table, children learn about the process of food from garden to table. All of our Year 3 - 6 children get the opportunity to participate in this exciting hands on programme where they learn to grow and harvest vegetables in our school garden, and use them too cook delicious meals in the kitchen.
