TERM 1 BEGINS WEDNESDAY 4th FEBRUARY 8:30AM - SCHOOL OFFICE RE-OPENS THURSDAY 22nd JANUARY
At Takaanini School student well being is of utmost importance. We have a number of programmes and links to external organisations to ensure that our students are healthy, happy and ready to learn.
Our school Breakfast Club runs every weekday from 8.30am until 8.50am in our upstairs café dining area. All ākonga are welcome to enjoy a free, nutritious breakfast in a calm, friendly space before school begins for the day. It is a simple way we support wellbeing, belonging, and readiness to learn.
Takaanini School works in partnership with the John Kirwan Foundation to deliver the Mitey Programme. Mitey supports ākonga to understand emotions, build resilience, and develop language to express themselves. It is an evidence based, NZ-specific programme for Years 1–8 that aligns with school values and teaching.
Through the Ka Ora, Ka Ako programme, all of our students receive a free, nutritious lunch each school day. The programme supports wellbeing, equity, and learning by ensuring students are well nourished and ready to engage. Meals are designed to be healthy, balanced, and suitable for growing tamariki.
The 5+ A Day Fruit in Schools programme provides students with free, export quality fruit each school day. The programme encourages healthy eating habits, supports physical wellbeing, and helps students build positive routines around nutrition so they are fuelled, focused, and ready to learn each day.
KidsCan works in partnership with Takaanini School to support student wellbeing and learning. Through KidsCan, we are able to provide food, clothing, shoes, personal hygiene supplies, and other essential resources that help ensure students are cared for, comfortable, and in a better position to learn.
The KiVa programme supports a safe, inclusive, and respectful school environment. KiVa focuses on preventing bullying through clear expectations, student learning, and consistent responses. It helps students develop empathy, responsibility, and positive peer relationships, ensuring everyone feels supported.
The Garden to Table programme is a core part of learning for our Year 5 and 6 students. Students grow, harvest, and prepare food while developing practical life skills, teamwork, and an understanding of sustainability, nutrition, and care for the environment through hands-on learning. Our school has a large vege garden for this.
